Glossary of terms

  • Ciberevent Any event, observable or not, in a technological, information or communications system.
  • Crack To edit a program for obtaining benefits. It is usually based on removing introductory screens, break protections or modifying a program code in order to get passwords to access systems, services and networks.
  • Critical Infrastructure Infrastructure which functioning is essential and that does not allow alternative solutions, so its disruption or destruction would have a serious impact on essential public services or government structures.
  • Cryptanalysis Branch of knowledge responsible for decoding encrypted messages without knowing the keys. It is said that a certain key has been ‘broken’ when someone manages to decrypt a message without knowing the originally key.
  • Cyberattack ntentional action in the cyberspace in order to disable, destroy or maliciously control an infrastructure or information system, destroy the integrity of the data or steal controlled information.
  • Cyberattack Act in which grievances, damage or prejudice are made to equipment and computer systems that are operating in the global network. Its target can be information, data, protocols, services, individuals or groups, entities or institutions using computers connected or not to the Internet.
  • Cyberbullying Misuse of information and communication technologies by an individual for the purpose of abusing or cause psychological harm between equals or to a third party. This action has a prolonged nature and involves harassment, siege, and intimidation aiming financial or sexual extortion, unauthorized access to personal content, using violence against a victim and their dissemination through Internet.
  • Cyberdefense Encompasses all defensive activities by means of ICT infrastructure and which "battlefield" is the cyberspace.
  • Cyberincident Incident related to ICT security that occurs in the cyberspace.
  • Cybersecurity Set of safety procedures, organizational, technical and operational measures applied to the management and protection of the use, processing, storage and transmission of data and information through ICTs that interact in the cyberspace.
  • Cybersecurity event Occurrence of a change in the state of a system, service or network indicating a possible violation of the security policy of the information or the failure of security controls, or a previously unknown situation that may be relevant to security in the cyberspace.
  • Cybersecurity Incident Any event that causes an interruption or reduction in the quality of a service or an effect on information security.
  • Cyberspace Interconnected virtual environment consisting of people, information, hardware, software, control systems or services.
  • Cyberterrorism Cyberattack intended to cause disablement, interruption and leak of information in networks, computers or media to create fear and intimidate people, or groups of people with a political-ideological goal.
