The announcement was made in the First National Workshop on Informatization and Cybersecurity that started this Wednesday, where the bases for the informatization of the Cuban society were presented.
The First National Workshop on Informatization and Cybersecurity started this Wednesday in the Conventions Palace in Havana with a plenary session in which more than 7500 professional of the country participated, interconnected through a videoconference system.
In the event were presented the bases for the informatization of the Cuban society and it was announced the creation of the Informaticians Union of Cuba (Spanish: Unión de Informáticos de Cuba UIC), which aims to group the biggest number of national specialists linked to the sector, in the state sector as well as in the non-state sector.
According to Wilfredo González, vice-minister of Communications, the bases for the informatization of the Cuban society aims to transform the Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) into a sector of strategic development for the nation and to potentiate an economy of the knowledge.
“The current situation of the informatics activity does not meet the needs of the population, because of the scarce advance in the use of the ICTs in a uniformed and coherent way”.
In this context, added the vice-minister, where it is vital the use of the ICTs as tools to develop the knowledge, the economy and the political-ideological activity, it cannot be delayed the creation of a strategy such as this one.
The Doctor of Sciences Ailyn Febles, vice-rector of the University of Informatics Sciences gave details about the Informaticians Union of Cuba by means of an audiovisual presented to the participants.
This organism seeks to create an environment for research, professional training and protection of legal property, everything associated to the development of the informatization, said Febles.
The UIC members will be voluntary and the requirements to be a part of it are stated in the statutes and regulations. All the professionals that graduated from majors related to the ICTs, and others that can prove their curricular activities in these topics and some cases with renowned performance can join.
The organism will be based in objectives, rights and duties, Febles continued. It seeks to group as many computer specialists as possible and will be organized at three levels. At the national level it will be holding congresses and will have a council and a board of directors. In the provinces there will be territorial directions and at the base the organization will be structured starting from cells with common interest. The computer specialists, she stated, can affiliate to them regarding their interests.
The UIC, Febles assured, intends to be an organization that manages knowledge, that has information on its associates in order to identify who knows what and also to be able to boost projects for those better trained according to the subjects pursued. Another of its goals is the international cooperation through its participation in events that allows it to compare experiences and accelerate the scientific and technological growth of the ICTs in Cuba. “There will be alliances with organizations of other countries, joint activities, discussion fora”, highlighted the Vice-rector of the UCI.
In the event it was underscored that those interested in participating in the workshop, ongoing until Friday, may do it through the web site of the Ministry of Communications, were a discussion forum was created with that purpose.
